What is Dental Malpractice?
Dental malpractice is a type of medical malpractice where the healthcare provider can be held responsible for any injury or loss they caused. There are various types of dental malpractice.
These can include, but are not limited to:
- Unnecessary extraction of a tooth
- Performing an unnecessary dental procedure such as a root canal or extraction when a filling would be sufficient
- Failing to diagnose a serious dental issue and a subsequent lack of treatment, leading to the problem getting worse
- Misdiagnosing a dental issue leading the patient to receive the wrong treatment
- Performing a dental procedure on the incorrect tooth
- Incorrect anesthesia given during treatment
- Failing to properly sanitize dental equipment and causing an infection
- Causing nerve damage while providing a routine dental treatment
- Failing to accurately read and consider the dental history of a patient and/or intentionally harming a patient while they are sedated for a dental treatment.
If you have been the victim of any of those situations, you’ll want to contact a North Carolina dental malpractice lawyer as soon as possible. They can advise you about the best action to take to help secure the compensation you deserve.
